Meson G
our comments
Meson G is a stylish, hip venue that has a distinct air of sophistication despite its retro nod to the '70s. While the ambience is casual, the generously spaced tables provide a sense of intimacy, and a handful of alluring stools along a heavy marble counter offer an unobstructed view straight into the open kitchen---ideal for solo diners. The menu is essentially a collection of intriguing small plates reflecting the breadth of the Mediterranean and beyond. Crispy veal sweetbreads are paired with a mustard pomme fourchette, a wonderfully creamy sea urchin gratin is laced with shiso and honshimeji mushrooms, and crispy pork belly is lightened up with a saffron-green apple purée. Desserts include pumpkin rosquillas and an ethereal yuzu-lime tart, and a decent selection of cheeses is offered as well. Although entrée-sized portions are available upon request, a parade of the beautifully presented contemporary tapas makes for a rewarding evening of dining.- March 2005
