Saddle Peak Lodge
our comments
This 100-year-old log building has been everything from a hunting lodge to a bordello. It boasts elegantly rustic dining rooms with fireplaces, antlered animal heads on the walls and a bar bedecked with vintage guns and fishing rods. Sit in the upstairs library, where Sharon Stone has been known to frequent, and view the surrounding mountain peaks through French doors or on the cactus-bordered terrace where you’re within earshot of a waterfall. Game such as venison, duck, quail is the speciality of the house. The menu includes buffalo tartare with whole mustard aïoli, seared foie gras with elephant heart plums, roasted elk tenderloin with bacon-wrapped salsa, and grilled venison chop with mascarpone polenta.- March 2005
