Monsieur Marcel was the first restaurant where my loved one took me out for a drink when I arrived in Los Angeles.

Needless to say that alone for that reason I have a soft spot for this place where waiters are friendly and knowledgeable.

The deli is great; whatever I miss from Europe I will be able to find there. It's like home being away from what once was home...

As for the restaurant...

I prefer to sit at the bar even though the bar stools are not the most comfortable (unless you are really skinny...). Great that before the drink arrives they usually give a small bowl with good quality olives. The wine menu is excellent, well what can we expect from Monsieur Marcel ? A good variety and enough choice to just have wine by the glass.

The portions are generous and yet not too much as often is the case. The bread basket consists of baquette and crackers, good butter.

The cheese fondue is absolute to be recommended. As to be expected: incredibly rich, but so good.

Their boeuf bourguignon is very good, nice selection of vegetables, good french fries.

Monsieur Marcel deserves a warm-hearted recommendation.

Downside... their kitchen closes early-ish.
